Revisiting the formation mechanism for coronal rain from previous studies

Abstract Solar coronal rain is classified generally into two categories: flare-driven and quiescent rain. Th latter observed to form along both closed open magnetic field structures. Recently, we proposed that some of the events, detected in transition region chromospheric diagnostics, loop-like paths could be explained by formation mechanism for facilitated interchange reconnection between lines. In this study, revisited 38 reports from literature. From theseearlier works, picked 15 events out solar limb, mostly suggested occur active loops due thermal nonequilibrium, scrutinize their mechanism. Employing extreme ultraviolet images line-of-sight magnetograms, evolution fields context structures examined. We find six, comprising 40%, totally or partially interpreted reconnection. The results suggest lines deserves more attention.
